No matter how much they pay you in return for doing whatever you do, if it’s not really the kind of work you'd like to be doing, in my opinion, they are not paying you enough! It’s a proven fact that people who are forced to do a job they have come to hate, take more sick leave and generally suffer more stress than those who are happy in their work. Unhappy employees eventually will all suffer from job burnout. It’s also a fact that people will happily work for less money, provided they get job satisfaction from doing what they do, are praised when they do a good job, and made to feel wanted and appreciated. But being the boss is not exactly a bed of roses either. Most employees who become bosses find themselves working harder than they ever worked before. As management consultant D.J. Swisher wryly puts it, "An entrepreneur is someone who will work for 16 hours a day to avoid working for someone else for 8 hours a day." In "The Prophet" (Heinemann. London) philosopher Kahill Gibran says: "Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy. And if you sing though as angels, and love not the singing, you muffle man’s ears to the voices of the day and the voices of the night." Bell #3 Recruit Experienced MLM'ers Some reports show that there are currently between seven to ten million active MLM'ers in the United States. They each have existing downlines from one to 100,000 or more members. There are two categories of experienced MLM'ers. The first group are those who are constantly looking for the next great opportunity or the latest sizzle product. If your company offers a great sizzle product or great business opportunity you have a good chance of recruiting many of these experienced MLM'ers. That is of course if you have been fortunate enough to have joined your program early (while it is still new). What's the key to making sure experienced MLM'ers join your downline? Applying the "The Six Keys of MLM Success". You must get in early or before your program enters into a new foreign market. You must offer the experienced MLM'er exceptional upline support. You must offer the experienced MLM'er an exceptional opportunity that actually pays well, and not just claims it pays well. The number one way to recruit experienced MLM'ers into your downline is to get a hold of their downline support materials for the programs they are currently marketing. Read their materials to see what they are personally looking for from a business opportunity. Then offer even more of the same to them! Are they in it for the money? Are they in it for the freedom that a business offers? Are they in it because they can help others to improve their health, their lives, or their finances? Are they in it because they are able to become a leader? Whatever reason they are participating in their current program you must show them how your program is an exact match for what they want out of life. If their marketing materials do not clearly identify why they are participating in their current program DO NOT ASSUME they are participating for reasons that are of interest to you. Instead ASK. Most experienced MLM'ers are happy to explain their excitement and interest in their business opportunity and/or the products. After they tell you what's of interest to them show them how your business opportunity offers exactly the same thing, plus how it eliminates certain negatives of MLM or negatives of their product. For example, let's say they are excited about their product because it helps people who are otherwise destitute and desperate for just a few hundred extra dollars a month to make thousands fairly rapidly. Let's also say that on the downside their program requires them to dedicate all their free time to selling, bugging friends and family, mailing thousands of pieces of mail monthly, and conduct meetings in their homes and in public at community centers and civic organizations. Now if your program also allowed people to make thousands fairly rapidly but doesn't require all of the negatives of the other program, say so. This will likely appeal to this experienced MLM'er because they know that more than 80% of those they recruit in their current program will most likely fall out because they don't want to do all those things. You are making the experienced MLM'ers life much simpler. That's just one hypothetical scenario for recruiting experienced MLM'ers. There are hundreds of possible scenarios. That's why you must know enough about your program to be able to recognize both the similarities between your business opportunity and the program that they are involved in. Really, it is easier to recruit experienced MLM'ers than a stranger off the street, provided you are able to apply "The Six Keys to MLM Success" in your efforts to recruit them. There is a second group of experienced MLM'ers that are not as easy to recruit. But with persistent application of "The Six Keys to MLM Success" you will have an outstanding likelihood of recruiting some from this group. This group of experienced MLM'ers can best be described by their near fanatical zeal toward company loyalty. They may have little or absolutely no interest whatsoever in making money because their goal is to improve the world by doing their utmost in helping to distribute their product. Or they may be so near the top of their current organization that they are making hundreds of thousands or millions monthly. One of the only ways to interest the company loyal MLM'er into your program is if you offer a similar or better product without the negatives of their product, or if your product is similar or better and less expensive, or is better distributed. This would interest this person because they are able to help even more people for less money or through faster distribution. Of course you must make sure you apply "The Six Keys to MLM Success" in your efforts to recruit the product loyalty MLM'er. Now those who are truly company loyal are not as easy to recruit. Since they may be earning hundreds of thousands or millions monthly without personally recruiting anyone else they may have no interest whatsoever in starting over with a new MLM opportunity. That is unless their current company goes out of business, changes its products or pay plan, or does anything else which this experienced MLM'er finds unacceptable. Then this experienced MLM'er will be looking for a replacement source of income or a replacement product to improve their world. Through persistence and regular communications with this experienced MLM'er and application of "The Six Keys to MLM Success" you will be "in the right place at the right time" to help this MLM'er get what they are looking for through your MLM opportunity. That's why you should keep your eyes and ears open for trends and changes in the MLM industry so that those who are looking for a replacement opportunity can easily find you. You must offer the experienced MLM'er exceptional upline support if you expect them to enroll into your program. The fourth key in "The Six Keys to MLM Success" is to "Support Your Downline". Focus on vision and accelerate your progress - Establish a powerful picture of your preferred future as you want it to be in three years. Use this vision as a guideline for all 1998 decisions, plans, communications and actions. Progress is a result of a creative relationship between the present-day you and the future you. To achieve an extraordinary preferred future, something has to change. You can't just keep doing what you've been doing and expect anything other than what you've been getting. Performance guided by a crystal-clear vision leads to extraordinary breakthroughs. 2. Focus on free time and turbocharge your productivity - Free time isn't a reward for working hard, it's a necessary prerequisite for optimum productivity. We need free time away from the business to rejuvenate ourselves. Proactively allowing for rest, relaxation and rejuvenation, regularly and frequently, leads to increased creativity and productivity. The more free time we take, the more creativity and productivity we will experience. In order to make breakthroughs in income, productivity and creativity, it is necessary to significantly increase the amount of free time away from the business. 3. Focus on cleanups and feel your energy soar - We all have messes in our lives. Messes are situations of disorder, conflict and incompletion that cause you to be distracted, lose energy, break concentration and reduce confidence. Messes can include finances, relationships, physical well-being, agreements and legal contracts. Each time you clean up a mess, you increase concentration, confidence and energy. For 1998, target a mess a month. 4. Focus on delegation and increase your income - Business owners and professionals won't delegate because they "can't find anyone who can do the job as well as they can". With today's vast electronic networks, we now have the ability to link up with the best people in the world. Some may be contractors for you, some could be employees, some might be strategic alliances. Stop trying to do everything. Superb results come not from a single individual, but rather from teams of individuals, all working within their own distinct areas of expertise toward a shared goal or vision. You've heard of the 80-20 rule -- 80% of your meaningful results come from only 20% of your activities. Each time you delegate some of your less productive activities, you multiply your effectiveness.... and your income. 5. Focus on new capabilities and boost your confidence - A capability is anything new that gives you increased ability to accomplish your goals. New capabilities can include: skilled people, use of technology, new skills and knowledge, new products and services, and new systems and methods. Whenever you feel frustrated by the complexity of your business, it means that you've gone as far as you can go with current capabilities. It's time to develop new capabilities. Target eight for 1998. 6. Focus on value and deepen relationships - Your economic opportunities lie in other people's future. You will succeed in your enterprise to the extent that you help other people to exceed in their lives. Ask every person you encounter what they want to have accomplished three years from now. Focus your entrepreneurial efforts on assisting others in achieving their goals. By adding value to their preferred future, you not only deepen your relationship, you also create huge opportunities for yourself. 7. Focus on your strengths and delegate weaknesses - Conventional wisdom says we should work on improving our weaknesses. This is a terrible waste of time, talent and opportunity. Highly successful entrepreneurs, as well as top scientists, artists, athletes and entertainers throughout history have achieved greatness by focusing on their areas of strength. Everybody has a natural aptitude in certain areas. No matter how hard you try, it is unlikely you will ever be more than average in areas where you do not have an aptitude. Continuously working on your weaknesses undermines your self esteem since you will focus mostly on your deficiencies. On the other hand, developing your natural talents is self rewarding and motivating, allowing you to continually realize higher and higher levels of ability, achievement and success. This year, experience the immense satisfaction that comes with being superb at something. 8. Focus on habits and forget about discipline - Everyone is already completely disciplined... to their existing set of habits. We have work habits, relationship habits, health habits, and so on. Each of us has a full set of habits which regulate most of our behavior. Progress in life is not a result of more discipline, but rather of developing goal- directed habits. Are your habits working for you, or against you? As you know, it takes about 21 days of daily repetition to establish a new habit. Generally, you can develop only one habit at a time. Over the course of 1998, you can establish seventeen new, productive habits, thereby producing extraordinary results. 9. Focus on your attitude and improve your altitude - Our behavior, our decisions, our actions and our results are based on our beliefs and attitudes. When we feel strong, confident, knowledgeable and competent, we will act that way. If we feel tired, depressed, incapable or weak, our behavior mirrors our feelings. How do we change the way we feel? By changing the way we talk to ourselves, we can manage our feelings and therefore our behavior. Most people verbally beat themselves up all throughout the day. When things go awry or we make a mistake, we criticize ourselves terribly. Let's remember that mistakes are the fuel of creativity. If we're not making mistakes, we're not doing anything worthwhile. Just say to yourself "OK, it happened. Now, how do we deal with it and avoid this next time?" 10. Focus on quality of life, and enjoy a life worth living - Researchers have said that only 4% of people enjoy both their work and their personal life. Make 1998 the year that you create balance in your life. Use your skills in goal setting and your persistence in achievement to develop a higher quality of life. Set and pursue goals in each of the value centers of your life: family life, physical well-being, your spiritual journey, intellectual growth, social involvement, and, of course, your financial health. By developing balance in your life, you will increase your energy, motivation, and your sense of satisfaction. In other words, your happiness. Most people are as happy as they choose to be.
