Hi Frank, I just upgraded to ver. 4.00. It took me a little to figure out the mysql database, but I got it! Good for me. The problem, however, has to do with the additional fields. "misc1", which was already there, is now not accepting the inputed info. I also set a new field named "ref". When I tried to make it a required field, I keep getting an error message that nothing was entered. So I changed it to not required. Now it doesn't accept the info. What I mean by this, is the form accepts the info, but when I receive my email informing me of a new sub, those two fields are blank. When I look in subscriber editor, those two fields are blank. Have I done something wrong? Ronald Dunn |

Frank, I've tried it twice. I copy/pasted the form code right out of the html links/code section for the Newsletter Test (NT) list. Then to check that it wasn't just me, I tried to subscribe myself to an existing list that HAS been working up until today. The additional field "misc1" comes up blank in admin. That form is located here: http://TheChristianMarketer.com/subscribe.html Ron |

Frank, I might have, huh? Sorry. I'm going to have to uninstall it and go back to using the previous version until you can fix it. As a publisher, I must have that fourth field when people subscribe. I was so happy that you finally got additional fields, too. Oh well, I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer. Ron

Hi Frank, Thank you for your hard and quick work. I re-upgraded my Ver. 3.02 to the new Ver. 4.01 this morning. I followed all the steps very carefully to make sure I didn't make any mistakes. The installation worked without a hitch. I have tested the new installation to make sure everything works and it does. The only thing I might mention is something that occurs immediately after you install, but before you go through the setup. This probably isn't really important, but it might confuse some people. Because you have not had a chance to tell the script what your MySQL database is, I received two bounce notices informing me that mmp@server.e3-kracken.com was an unroutable address. One other thing that might be important, also, might be to notify current script owners and add to the readme file that the file names for the additional fields will change when they upgrade and that they will need to change their existing forms to reflect that or they will not work. Again, thank you so much. I have been using your scripts for over two years, now and have always been happy with them. Glitches occur and are part of everyday life. Ronald Dunn

Hi Ronald, Thanks for the tip and kind feedback. I will add a note to the manual regarding the change of the misc1 field in version 4.0 or later compared to version 3.02 or before. Regarding the two bounce messages you received, I assume that happened because you first upgraded, then downgraded and then upgraded again. No Frank, I also received them the first time I tried to install Ver. 4.00. In fact, I had received other bounce notices the first time, but ONLY got the two this time with Ver. 4.01. I have already deleted all the bounce notices, so I can't send them to you. Ron

Hi Ron, Did you send out a message recently before you upgraded? Is that why you received bounces? Anyway, it should usually only a matter of minutes between installing the upgrade and entering the MySQL settings. Frank, No I hadn't sent anything out in a couple of days. I uploaded the files for the script and changed the permission on the install.pl file. Then I went in my Internet Explorer and typed in the install link which took me to the Congratulations page. I had to do something so I left that page up for awhile. I noticed I had some email so I checked it before I continued on to set up. They were bounce notices stating unroutable address for mmp@server.e3-kracken.com (that is the domain name for my hosting company). The bounce notice had 30 to 40 or more lines of information. The only things I really remember is something about cron jobs (which I did not set up for this) and a link to the schedule.pl file (I have never scheduled a message, I always send immediately. I am also not using the bounce feature.) I wish now that I had saved one, but I didn't think about it since everything is working fine as far as I can tell. Sorry. Ron

Hi Ron, No problem. But if you ever notice anything like this again, I would be interested to take a look at it.
